My little friends
The 23rdand 24th May were party days for us. The first was the “End of exams party” which I have been doing for Elkan and Elias since 2010. The second was a six-hours “Open house” for Samuel’s Kindergarten friends.
Look, the children were much younger then.. (Sorry for the quality of the photo! Technical problem..) |
When I first started it, I did not think that I would do this year after year. But before SA1 in 2011, Elkan asked me whether I was going to have the party again. It seemed that his friends asked. In order not to disappoint them, I had the second party.
Before SA2 in 2011, Elkan said that he looks forward to the examinations, because there will be a party after that. So I did the party again, to reward his “positive attitude” (Lol. I am just joking).
This year, Elkan told me that he has not much to look forward to everyday at school. However, he looks forward to the Party (which I think has now acquired a capital ‘P’ status). Of course, I had to do the party again. How could I rob him of his only joy in life?
But I enjoyed the party not only because I see my children enjoy themselves. I enjoyed it because over the years, I see the same boys, and I see them grow. I have gotten to know them, and have gotten really fond of them. Maybe because I have three boys, I love boys. They are so cheeky and easy-going. They tease each other mercilessly but nobody seems to mind. I see genuine friendship and acceptance among them and I feel privileged being an observer and at-times participant of their little world.
But I really wish, from the bottom of my heart, that all these boys will grow up to be happy and successful men. If it is within my power to do anything for them in future, I would. They are my friends too.
When they grow up, will I recognise them when I meet them on the streets? 🙂 |
Love the End Of Exam Party idea! Think I will have one when its my turn a few years down the road =)
Yes, do that, it helps you know your child so much better, and you learn more about the world in which they are operating in. It makes me feel young too!
So sweet of you! I bet they all wish they had a cool mum like you.

I don’t know. Most times when I see them on the streets, they don’t always say hi, lol. But maybe they secretly appreciate me. They are boys, I don’t expect much, lol.
